One Day in Idukki - ഒരു നാൾ ഇടുക്കിയിൽ

Idukki is located in central Kerala and is famous for the hydro electric power projects which meets almost 60% of the state's electric power needs.  Idukki Dam is the only Arch Dam in India which is constructed across two huge rocks.  Visiting Idukki Dam and its beautiful premises is a life time experience for people of any age group.  This document introduces five locations in Idukki near to the Arch Dam that could be covered in a day either by using the public transport facilities or by own vehicle.

മദ്ധ്യ കേരളത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഇടുക്കി, ജല വൈദ്യുത പദ്ധതികൾക്ക് പ്രസിദ്ധമാണ്.  കേരളത്തിനാവശ്യമായ വൈദ്യുതിയുടെ 60 ശതമാനത്തൊളം  ഇടുക്കിയിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഉത്പാദിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്.   ഭീമാകാരമായ രണ്ടു പാറകൾക്കു കുറുകെ ഇടുക്കിയിൽ നിർമ്മിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് രാജ്യത്തെ കമാനാകൃതിയിലുള്ള ഒരേയൊരു അണക്കെട്ടാണ്.    മനോഹരമായ ഇടുക്കി ഡാമും പരിസരവും സന്ദർശിക്കുന്നത് ഏതു പ്രായത്തിലുള്ളവർക്കും ഒരു പുതിയ അനുഭവമാണ്.  ഇടുക്കി അണക്കെട്ട് കേന്ദ്രീകരിച്ച് ഒരു ദിവസം കൊണ്ട് സന്ദർശിക്കാവുന്ന അഞ്ചു സ്ഥലങ്ങൾ പരിചയപ്പെടുത്താനാണ് ഇവിടെ  ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നത്.  സ്വന്ത വാഹനത്തിലോ പൊതു ഗതാഗത സൗകര്യമുപയോഗിച്ചോ സന്ദർശിക്കാവുന്ന സ്ഥലങ്ങളാണിവ.

The Idukki Reservoir is spread over 60 square kilometers in Idukki wild life sanctuary.  This visit includes boating through Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary, enjoy Dam view from nearby Hillview Park, close visit of Cheruthony and Idukki Dams and panoramic view of Idukki reservoir from Kalvary mount.

Boating in Idukki wildlife sanctuary can be enjoyed by people of any age group.  The boat service is being arranged by forest and wildlife department and is operated on all days from 9:30 am to 5 pm.  The ticket rate per person is Rs.135 for half an hour journey and the boat is having capacity of 18 persons.  The tickets can be taken from the ticket counter near the entrance of Idukki Dam Road which is at Vellappara in Thodupuzha-Puliyanmala state highway  (3 kms away from Cheruthony in Thodupuzha route and 2 kms away from Painavu).  During this boating one can enjoy the scenery of both Cheruthony and Idukki Dams as you may see in the video above.  For enquiry you may contact the office at +919496821481

ഇടുക്കി ജലസംഭരണിയിലൂടെയുള്ള ബോട്ട് യാത്ര ഏതുപ്രായത്തിലുള്ളവർക്കും ആസ്വദിക്കാവുന്ന ഒന്നാണ്. കേരളാ വനം വന്യജീവി വകുപ്പിന്റെ നേരിട്ടുള്ള ചുമതലയിൽ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ ബോട്ടിംഗ് എല്ലാ ദിവസവും രാവിലെ 9:30 മുതൽ വൈകിട്ട് 5 വരെ ലഭ്യമാണ്. 18 പേർക്ക് സഞ്ചരിക്കാവുന്ന ബോട്ടിൽ അര മണിക്കൂർ ജലാശയത്തിലൂടെ സഞ്ചരിക്കുന്നതിന് ഒരാൾക്ക് 135 രൂപയാണ് ചാർജ്ജ് ഈടാക്കുന്നത്. ഇതിനായുള്ള ടിക്കറ്റ് കൗണ്ടർ വെള്ളാപ്പാറയിലുള്ള ഇടുക്കി ഡാം പ്രവേശന കവാടത്തിൽത്തന്നെ ക്രമീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ചെറുതോണിയിൽ നിന്നും തൊടുപുഴ റൂട്ടിൽ 3 കിലോമീറ്ററും ഇടുക്കി ജില്ലാ ആസ്ഥാനമായ പൈനാവിൽ നിന്നും 2 കിലോമീറ്ററും അകലെയാണ് വെള്ളാപ്പാറ. മുകളിൽ കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന വീഡിയോയിൽ കാണുന്നതുപോലെ ചെറുതോണി ഇടുക്കി ഡാമുകളുടെ മനോഹര ദൃശ്യം ഈ ബോട്ടിംഗിൽ നിങ്ങൾക്ക് ആസ്വദിക്കാൻ സാധിക്കും. കൂടുതൽ അന്വേഷണങ്ങൾക്ക് +919496821481 എന്ന നമ്പറിൽ വിളിക്കാവുന്നതാണ്.

2. Hill View Park

This park is located on a hilltop very near to both the Dams from where one can enjoy the Panoramic View of the Idukki Reservoir as well as both Cheruthony and Idukki Dams.   Also we could take plenty of photographs from here. This is situated by the side of Idukki Dam Road near Government Guest House Idukki just 1 km away from Boating ticket counter.   This park is open for all days from 9 am to 5:30 pm and is managed by District Tourism Council Idukki.  The Tickets (Rs.20 per person) can be have from the Entrance of the Park.

ചെറുതോണി ഇടുക്കി അണക്കെട്ടുകളുടെ തൊട്ടടുത്തുള്ള മലമുകളിലാണ് ഈ പാർക്ക് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഇവിടെനിന്ന് നോക്കിയാൽ ഇടുക്കി ജലസംഭരണിയുടെയും അണക്കെട്ടുകളുടേയും മനോഹര ദൃശ്യം ആസ്വദിക്കുവാനും യഥേഷ്ടം ഫോട്ടോകൾ എടുക്കുവാനും സാധിക്കും. ബോട്ടിംഗ് ടിക്കറ്റ് കൗണ്ടറിൽ നിന്നും 1 കിലോമീറ്റർ മാത്രം അകലെയായി ഇടുക്കി ഡാം റോഡിൽ ഗവണ്മെന്റ് ഗസ്റ്റ് ഹൗസിനു സമീപമുള്ള ഈ പാർക്കിൽ എല്ലാ ദിവസവും രാവിലെ 9 മുതൽ വൈകുന്നേരം 5:30 വരെ സന്ദർശകർക്ക് പ്രവേശനമുണ്ട്. പ്രവേശന കവാടത്തിലുള്ള ജില്ലാ ടൂറിസം കൗൺസിലിന്റെ ടിക്കറ്റ് കൗണ്ടറിൽ നിന്ന് 20 രൂപയുടെ ടിക്കറ്റെടുത്താൽ പാർക്ക് സന്ദർശിക്കാം.

A visit to these Dams are not permitted for all days due to security reasons.  Currently the Dams could be visited on all Saturdays and Sundays.  Visiting is also permitted on all public holidays in Kerala.  In addition, Dams usually open for public visit for 10 to 20 days during Onam and New year seasons.   The entrance to Dam Visit is located around 2 kms away from boating ticket counter and just 1 km ahead of Hill view park.  Vehicles could be parked near the entrance and mobiles phones, camera and other electronic equipment are not permitted during the visit.  Ticket rates are Rs.25 and 15(for children).  Both the dams could be visited either by foot or one can make use of the Buggy car service available at the entrance.    For details click on 'Idukki Dam Visit' link above.

സുരക്ഷാ കാരണങ്ങളാൽ എല്ലാ ദിവസവും ഇടുക്കി അണക്കെട്ട് സന്ദർശിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള സൗകര്യം ലഭ്യമല്ല.  എല്ലാ ശനി, ഞായർ ദിവസങ്ങളിലും കേരളത്തിലെ പൊതുഒഴിവു ദിവസങ്ങളിലും ചെറുതോണി, ഇടുക്കി അണക്കെട്ടുകൾ സന്ദർശകർക്കായി തുറന്നുകൊടുക്കുന്നു.  കൂടാതെ ഓണം, പുതുവത്സര സീസണുകളിൽ 10 മുതൽ 20 വരെ തുടർച്ചയായ ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ സന്ദർശനം അനുവദിക്കാറുണ്ട്.   ഇടുക്കി ഡാം റോഡിൽ ബോട്ടിംഗ് ടിക്കറ്റ് കൗണ്ടറിൽ നിന്നും 2 കിലോമീറ്റർ ദൂരത്തിൽ ഹിൽവ്യൂ പാർക്കിൽ നിന്നും കഷ്ടിച്ച് ഒരു കിലോമീറ്ററോളം മുൻപോട്ടു സഞ്ചരിച്ചാൽ അണക്കെട്ട് സന്ദർശനത്തിനുള്ള ടിക്കറ്റ് കൗണ്ടറിലെത്താം.  ഇവിടെ വാഹനങ്ങൾ പാർക്കു ചെയ്യുന്നതിനുള്ള സൗകര്യമുണ്ട്.  അണക്കെട്ട് സന്ദർശനം കാൽനടയായോ പ്രവേശനകവാടത്തിലുള്ള ബഗ്ഗി കാർ സൗകര്യമുപയോഗിച്ചോ ആകാം.  മുതിർന്നവർക്ക് 25 രൂപ കുട്ടികൾക്ക് 15 രൂപ എന്നിങ്ങനെയാണ് ടിക്കറ്റ് നിരക്ക്.  കൂടുതൽ വിവരങ്ങൾക്ക് മുകളിലുള്ള 'ഇടുക്കി ഡാം സന്ദർശനം' എന്ന ലിങ്ക് ഉപയോഗിക്കുക.

5. Kalvary Mount

After seeing the Dams, if you travel 7 kms through state highway in Kattappana direction you will reach Kalvary Mount which is managed by Forest department.  The view point is hardly 650 meters away from the Bus Stop.  In case you are coming by your own vehicle, you may reach the spot and parking is also available.   Tickets can be taken at the entrance (Rs.20 per person).  Here you can enjoy panoramic view of the reservoir as shown in the video above.

അണക്കെട്ട് സന്ദർശനത്തിനു ശേഷം ഇടുക്കി ഡാം എക്സിറ്റ് പോയിന്റിൽ നിന്നും 7 കിലോമീറ്ററോളം കട്ടപ്പന റൂട്ടിൽ സഞ്ചരിച്ചാൽ കാൽ വരി മൗണ്ടിലെത്താം. ബസ് സ്റ്റോപ്പിൽ നിന്നും 650 മീറ്ററോളം അകലെയാണ് വ്യൂ പോയിന്റ്.  ചെറു വാഹനങ്ങളിൽ വരുന്നവർക്ക് വ്യൂ പോയിന്റിനു സമീപം വാഹനം പാർക്കു ചെയ്യുന്നതിനുള്ള സൗകര്യമുണ്ട്.  കേരളാ വനം വന്യജീവി വകുപ്പിന്റെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിലുള്ള ഈ പ്രദേശത്ത് 20 രൂപാ ടിക്കറ്റെടുത്ത് പ്രവേശിക്കാം.  വീഡിയോയിൽ കാണുന്നതുപോലെ ഇടുക്കി ജലസംഭരണിയുടെ മാസ്മരിക സൗന്ദര്യമാണ് ഇവിടെ നിങ്ങളെ കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നത്.
