Idukki Dam Visit ഇടുക്കി ഡാം സന്ദർശനം

ഇടുക്കി ഡാം, ചെറുതോണി ഡാം എന്നിവ സന്ദർശിക്കുന്നതിനായി എല്ലാ ശനി, ഞായർ ദിവസങ്ങളിലും സൗകര്യമുണ്ട്.  കൂടാതെ എല്ലാ പൊതു അവധി ദിവസങ്ങളിലും ഡാം സൈറ്റ് സന്ദർശകർക്കായി തുറക്കുന്നതാണ്.  ഇതിനും പുറമെ ഓണം, നവവത്സര അവസരങ്ങളിൽ തുടർച്ചയായ ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ അണക്കെട്ട് സന്ദർശനം അനുവദിക്കാറുണ്ട്. രാവിലെ 9:30 മുതൽ വൈകുന്നേരം 5 വരെയാണ് സന്ദർശന സമയം.

Both Idukki and Cheruthony Dams are Open for Public Visit on all Saturdays and Sundays. In addition, visiting is allowed on all Public Holidays of Kerala State. Apart from that Dam site shall be open for visitors for few continuous days during Onam and Newyear occassions. Timing is from 9:30 am to 5 pm.

ചെറുതോണി ഡാം സന്ദർശിക്കുന്നവർ - People visiting Cheruthony Dam

കുളമാവ് അണക്കെട്ടിന്റെ  മുകളിൽക്കൂടി സംസ്ഥാന പാത കടന്നു പോകുന്നതിനാൽ സന്ദർശനത്തിന് പ്രത്യേക അനുമതി ആവശ്യമില്ല. എങ്കിലും ഫോട്ടോഗ്രാഫിയും ഡാമിന്റെ മുകളിൽ വാഹനം നിർത്തിയിടുന്നതും നിരോധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.  സന്ദർശകർ ഡാമിനു മുൻപോ ശേഷമോ വാഹനം നിർത്തി ഡാമിനു മുകളിൽക്കൂടി നടന്ന് സന്ദർശനം നടത്താവുന്നതാണ്.

Special permission is not required to visit Kulamavu Dam as the state highway passes through the dam. But photography and stopping vehicle in the Dam are prohibited. Visitors could stop their vehicle before or after the Dam and can visit the Dam by foot.

       അതേസമയം മൂലമറ്റം ഭൂഗർഭ വൈദ്യുത നിലയത്തിൽ യാതൊരു വിധ സന്ദർശനവും അനുവദിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. At the same time, NO visiting shall be permitted at the underground power station.

ഇടുക്കി ഡാം സന്ദർശിക്കാൻ തൊടുപുഴ ഭാഗത്തുനിന്നും ബസിൽ വരുന്നവർ പൈനാവിൽ നിന്നും 2 കിലോമീറ്റർ കൂടി സഞ്ചരിച്ച് വെള്ളാപ്പാറ ഇടുക്കി ഡാം സ്റ്റോപ്പിൽ ഇറങ്ങണം.  ചെറുതോണി ഭാഗത്തുനിന്നും ബസിൽ വരുന്നവർ ചെറുതോണിയിൽ നിന്നും തൊടുപുഴ റൂട്ടിൽ 3 കിലോമീറ്റർ സഞ്ചരിച്ച് വെള്ളാപ്പാറ ഇടുക്കി ഡാം സ്റ്റോപ്പിൽ ഇറങ്ങണം.   അവിടെ ഡാം ജംഗ്ഷനിലുള്ള ഫോറസ്റ്റ് ഡിപ്പാർട്ട്മെന്റ് കൗണ്ടറിൽനിന്നും ഇടുക്കി ജലാശയത്തിൽ ബോട്ടിംഗിനുള്ള ടിക്കറ്റ് ലഭിക്കും. 18 പേർക്ക് സഞ്ചരിക്കാവുന്ന ബോട്ടിൽ അര മണിക്കൂർ ദൈർഘ്യമുള്ള സഞ്ചാരത്തിന് ഒരു ടിക്കറ്റിന് 135 രൂപയാണ് നിരക്ക്.  ബോട്ടിംഗ് നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നത് അവിടെ നിന്നുമാണ്. 

Those who are coming to visit Idukki Dam by public transport bus from Thodupuzha direction should get down at Vellappara Idukki Dam stop which is 2 kilometer ahead of Painavu. Those who are coming from Cheruthony direction should travel 3 kilometers in Thodupuzha route and get down at Vellappara Idukki Dam stop. Forest department is conducting boating in the reservoir from there. You may get the boating ticket from the counter. The rate is Rs.135 per person for a trip of half an hour duration in which 18 person can travel at a time. 

ഇടുക്കി ജലാശയത്തിൽ ബോട്ടിംഗ് നടത്തുന്നവർ - Boating in Idukki Reservoir

പിന്നീട് ചെറുതോണി- ഇടുക്കി  ഡാമുകൾ സന്ദർശിക്കുന്നതിനായി ഒന്നര കിലോമീറ്ററോളം കാൽനടയായി സഞ്ചരിച്ചാൽ ചെറുതോണി ഡാമിന്റെ പ്രവേശന കവാടത്തിലെത്താം.  അവിടെയുള്ള ടിക്കറ്റ് കൗണ്ടറിൽ നിന്ന് രണ്ടു ഡാമുകളും സന്ദർശിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ടിക്കറ്റ് ലഭ്യമാകും.   മുതിർന്നവർക്ക് 25 രൂപയും കുട്ടികൾക്ക് 15 രൂപയുമാണ് ടിക്കറ്റ് നിരക്ക്.

After that you may travel 1.5 kilometers further ahead to reach Dam Entrance Point. Get tickets from the Ticket counter over there and visit both the dams. Ticket rates are Rs.25 for elders and Rs.15 for children.

ഇടുക്കി അണക്കെട്ട് സന്ദർശിക്കുന്നവർ

സ്വന്തം വാഹനത്തിൽ വരുന്നവർ വെള്ളാപ്പാറ ഇടുക്കി ഡാം ജംഗ്ഷനിൽ വച്ച് സംസ്ഥാന പാതയിൽനിന്നും തിരിഞ്ഞ് ഡാമിലേയ്ക്കുള്ള റൂട്ടിൽ പ്രവേശിക്കണം (മാപ്പിൽ നീല നിറത്തിൽ കാണിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുക).  ഇത് വൺ വേ ആയി ക്രമീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതിനാൽ പ്രവേശനം ഇവിടെ മാത്രമേ സാദ്ധ്യമാകൂ.  ഈ റോഡിന്റെ വശങ്ങളിൽ പാർക്കു ചെയ്ത് നേരത്തെ സൂചിപ്പിച്ച പ്രകാരം ബോട്ടിംഗ് നടത്താവുന്നതാണ്.

Those who are coming by own vehicle should divert from State Highway at Vellappara Idukki Dam Junction to enter the Dam route (note the route shown in blue colour in the map). As this route is one way, entry is permitted only at this point. Vehicle can be parked at road side and enjoy boat service in the reservoir by forest department as detailed above.

തുടർന്ന് മുൻപോട്ട് സഞ്ചരിച്ച് ചെറുതോണി അണക്കെട്ടിന്റെ കവാടത്തിനു സമീപമുള്ള ടിക്കറ്റ് കൗണ്ടറിൽ നിന്ന് രണ്ടു ഡാമുകളും സന്ദർശിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ടിക്കറ്റ് കരസ്ഥമാക്കാം.  വാഹനങ്ങൾക്ക് ഡാമിൽ പ്രവേശനമില്ലാത്തതിനാൽ അവ സൗകര്യപ്രദമായി റോഡുസൈഡിൽ പാർക്കു ചെയ്യേണ്ടതാണ്.  സന്ദർശന ശേഷം മുൻപോട്ടു തന്നെ സഞ്ചരിച്ച് ജില്ലാ ആശുപത്രിക്കു സമീപം സംസ്ഥാന പാതയിൽ പ്രവേശിക്കാം .
After that travel further ahead by 1.5 kilometers to reach the ticket counter near Cheruthony Dam Entrance. The ticket for visiting both Cheruthony and Idukki Arch Dams are issued from here. As the Vehicles are not permited in the Dam, it can be parked conveniently by the road side. After the visit, you may proceed further ahead to enter the State Highway near District Hospital

    ഡാം സന്ദർശന വേളയിൽ മൊബൈൽ ഫോൺ, ക്യാമറ മുതലായവ  അനുവദനീയമല്ലാത്തതിനാൽ അത് കൈവശം കരുതാതിരിക്കുന്നത് നന്നായിരിക്കും.  അല്ലാത്ത പക്ഷം അവ സൂക്ഷിക്കുവാൻ ടിക്കറ്റ് കൗണ്ടറിൽ സൗകര്യമുണ്ട്. 

    As Mobile Phones, Camera etc. are not allowed during Dam Visit, it is better not to keep them with you. But there is facility for keeping them near ticket counter. 

ചെറുതോണി ഡാമിന്റെ കവാടത്തിൽ സെക്യൂരിറ്റി പരിശോധനകൾക്കു ശേഷം പ്രവേശിക്കുന്ന സന്ദർശകർ അവിടെനിന്നും ചെറുതോണി ഡാമിന്റെ മുകളിൽക്കൂടി നടന്ന് കുറവൻ മല ചുറ്റി ഇടുക്കി ഡാമിലെത്തണം.  (മാപ്പിൽ വയലറ്റ് നിറത്തിലുള്ള വഴി ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുക).  ചെറുതോണി ഡാമിന്റെ കവാടത്തിൽ നിന്നും ഇടുക്കി ഡാം വരെ 2 കിലോമീറ്ററോളം ദൂരമുണ്ട്.  പോകുന്ന വഴിയിൽനിന്ന് വലതു വശത്തേയ്ക്ക് 500 മീറ്ററോളം സഞ്ചരിച്ചാൽ വൈശാലി ഗുഹ സന്ദർശിക്കാം.

After entering through Cheruthony Dam Entrance after security check up, one has to walk through Cheruthoni Dam and then reach Idukki Arch Dam by crossing the 'Kuravan' hill (see the route in violet colour in the map). There are around 2 kilometers distance to Idukki Arch Dam from Cheruthony Dam Entrance. On the way, if you deviate 500 meters towards right side, you may visit 'Vaisali' Cave also.

ഇടുക്കി ഡാം സന്ദർശനത്തിനു ശേഷം കുറത്തി മലയ്ക്കുള്ളിലൂടെയുള്ള തുരങ്കത്തിലൂടെ കടന്ന്  600 മീറ്റർ കൂടി മുൻപോട്ടു നടന്നാൽ ചെറുതോണി-കട്ടപ്പന സംസ്ഥാന പാതയിലെത്താം.  ബസിൽ വന്നവർക്ക് അവിടെ നിന്നും അടുത്ത ബസിൽ കയറാവുന്നതാണ്.  സ്വന്ത വാഹനം ചെറുതോണി അണക്കെട്ട് കവാടത്തിൽ പാർക്കു ചെയ്തവർക്കും മൊബൈൽ, ക്യാമറ മുതലായവ കവാടത്തിൽ സൂക്ഷിച്ചവർക്കും തിരികെ നടന്ന് ചെറുതോണി അണക്കെട്ട് കവാടത്തിൽക്കൂടി പുറത്തേയ്ക്ക് പോകാവുന്നതാണ്.

After Idukki Dam Visit, one can proceed forward further through the tunnel to reach Cheruthony-Kattappana route in State Highway. Those who came by public transport can avail bus service from there. But in case your vehicle is parked at the entrance or your mobile/ camera is kept at the entrance, then you can go back and exit through the Cheruthony Dam Entrance itself.

ഇടുക്കി അണക്കെട്ടിൽ നിന്നും സംസ്ഥാന പാതയിലേയ്ക്കു കടക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള തുരങ്കം - The Tunnel from Idukki Dam to the State Highway

ഇത്രയും ദൂരം കാൽനടയായി സഞ്ചരിച്ച് അണക്കെട്ട് സന്ദർശിക്കാൻ സാധിക്കാത്തവർക്കായി ബഗ്ഗി കാർ സൗകര്യവുമുണ്ട്.  ചെറുതോണി ഡാമിന്റെ കവാടത്തിൽനിന്ന് പുറപ്പെട്ട് രണ്ട് അണക്കെട്ടുകളുടേയും മുകളിൽക്കൂടി സഞ്ചരിച്ച് തിരികെ എത്തുന്നതിന് ആളൊന്നിന് 40 രൂപയാണ് നിരക്ക്.

There is also Buggy car service available which is meant for those who are unable to walk such a long distance. The ticket for the same can be availed from the ticket counter at Cheruthony Dam Entrance. The car will pass through both the dams and shall return at the starting point. The rate is rs.40 per person.
